outta here

So tomorrow is the first day of the first vacation that landisdad and I have taken in the last three years. Whoo-hooo! Two years ago, I was about to go on maternity leave, and didn’t feel like I could take a vacation before that. Last year, I worked on the presidential election, and didn’t have the time to take vacation. This year, I insisted on it.

We’re not going away, we’re just staying home and doing day trips and spending time with our kids. It seemed like a big hassle to try to go out of town, involving either a spectacularly long car trip or flying with the SP, which is daunting. Next year, we’ll aim higher.

I’m looking forward to spending down time with my kids, and with going places with them. We’ll be treating our city like tourists, and doing the kinds of things that you never do when you live in a place. And I’ll be trying to kick my blog addiction, which has grown out of control this week.

So have a great week–I’ll have a special announcement for you all when I get back!

Enjoy your vacation and I hope you get lots of rest and relaxation. Our trip to the beach is the last two weeks in August, and I really need this vacation! But I canít imagine a whole two weeks away from blogging. Yikes! I guess Iíll be going cold turkey as well 🙂

You know, it’s really true about not visiting your local attractions. When the Man lived here in the D.C. area I used to visit and go to the Smithsonian and other such things a LOT. Now that I live here, I scarcely ever go into the city!

Of course, having the kids has something to do with it too (!)

    Have a great vacation!

Hey!!! Just nipping in…. My Mum’s visiting and I don’t get a lot of chance to get online…!! 😉

I hope you have a WONDERFUL vacation!!

*and I can’t wait to hear what the announcement is… any clues????* 😀

You definitely get an entire new perspective on your city when you take the time to visit it as a tourist. When I first moved to Montreal I dragged my husband to all the sights and he was constantly surprised at discovering so many new places in the city where he lived all his life (over 40 years!)…

I’m sure that you’ll have a good time exploring the local sites that are available in your hometown!

I think that lots of people often choose not to visit the touristy attractions that are right in their own neighborhood. When I lived in SF, I was surprised at how many people had never visited Alcatraz before.

Have a great time! We’re also starting our vacation tomorrow, which does involve a drive, but also two beautiful ferry rides and ends up in a place where I don’t feel guilty if I’m not cleaning or working or blogging, if I’m just kicking back doing nothing…

I’ll look foward to hearing about your vacation and about your special announcement too!
