I’m happy to report that for four of the last five days, the Potato has gone to bed wearing underwear, instead of a pull-up. And there has been dryness.

He made the decision himself to try it, and while my heart was going pitter-pat at the concept of no longer having to change diapers, I didn’t press it. But he persisted, and told me he’s a big boy now.

You know what I mean.

May 1, 2007. growing up.

Totally. The Sniglet starts First Grade this September and the ambivalence is so great I may have to split into two separate people to deal with it.

  2. chichimama replied:

Hurrah! And sniffing along with you…

  3. Suzanne replied:

Way to go, Potato! Why must all these milestones be bittersweet?

  4. Jeff replied:

    Sweet, Potato!

  5. CamiKaos replied:

    Congrats… and sigh.

  6. Jennifer (ponderosa) replied:

I know exactly what you mean. I felt that way about breastfeeding, too.

  7. thordora replied:

Vivian has done 4 days! Woo!

But yeah-I took a good look at her and thought “How can almost 4 look SOOO grown up?”

  8. Susan replied:

Woo hoo! And pass the kleenex.

  9. Doppelganger replied:

    Congratulations, Potato!

If it makes you feel any better, though, Landismom, let me tell you that I just spent the better part of an hour reading stories to Sam while he sat on the potty. I started to suspect at the halfway point that he was merely using this as a stalling tactic to delay naptime, but I didn’t want to rush him in case he really had to poop. So we read the same bloody Richard Scarry book over and over the entire time before I finally declared potty time over. And then, right before I put Sam’s diaper back on, he peed all over the floor.

I my very own self am looking forward to the bittersweetness of getting this particular milestone behind us.

  10. Ashley replied:

    Yea Potato!

  11. Library Lady replied:

    Mazel tov, Potato AND Landismom!

Ah, the joy of being diaper bag free!
Sob, the sorrow of not having littles about.

MY baby is turning 8 in 3 weeks. Please send those Kleenex my way….

  12. Liz replied:

Aww, that is awesome!!! Congrats to him and you and I hope he continues to stay dry. 🙂 Yes, it is bittersweet.
